FAQ

Who owns My WordBooks?

My Word Books is an imprint of Small Nation Inc., a Calgary-based Canadian company, which is owned by the creator of the books, a now-retired school teacher (see About Us ). My Word Books began operations in 2015.

Do the books contain Canadian content?

Yes, indeed.
Placenames, references, spellings, money (loonies and toonies, eh), and much
more.

Are the books the same size?

Yes, all books are 64 pages, 15.2 x 22.86 cm (6 x 9 in), printed on standard white paper with inside-cover lamination for better cover retention.

How are the books priced?

The higher the quantity, the lower the price, and multiple-title orders are combined on one invoice for greater savings! See quantities and prices on each individual book page on this website.

How long does it take to receive the books?

Typically, delivery is typically within six business days for orders shipped via FedEx, which is almost all orders. A very few smaller orders, or orders for a PO Box or a rural address, will be shipped via Canada Post, which takes longer.

Where are orders shipped from?

All shipments come from Manitoba, where the books are warehoused with our printer and fulfillment agent, Friesens. The packing slip and boxes used for shipments will be marked “Friesens,” not My Word Books.

My school will be closed for a holiday. How do I postpone the shipment when I order?

You are welcome to place an order at any time, but we cannot deliver books when your school is closed. It is easy to delay delivery until your school reopens. After you have entered the quantity of books in the CART, please indicate the preferred week for delivery in the text box "special instructions for seller."

Does an account have to be created before a purchase can be made?

There are no accounts. Simply enter the quantities of books required and follow the steps in the shopping cart. Note: All transactions are in Canadian dollars.

What sort of purchase receipt is provided?

An official receipt (from Small Nation Inc.) for your purchase will automatically and immediately be emailed to the email address you enter when you complete your purchase. Please see Ordering & Shipping for information about spam filters and other important details.

Can books be returned?

Only books that arrive damaged can be returned. (This has happened only once!) Please Contact Us immediately.

Is My Word Books an approved vendor for the Toronto District School Board?

My Word Books is not an approved vendor for the TDSB. TDSB schools can order from approved vendor V&L Information Resources in Markham.

Can My First Words and My Words be used for older students?

Though intended for elementary grades, we’ve noticed over the years that a few ELL programs for older students are using the books.

What’s the difference between Mes mots bleu and Mes mots vert?

Mes mots bleu is intended for French as a second language (FSL), while Mes mots vert is for immersion programs. Bleu contains some English – there is no English in vert. (Please note: Each individual book page on this website has one-click access to see inside the complete book.)

Is Canadian English for older students?

Yes, it is designed for teens and adults. In addition to junior and high schools across Canada, various adult ELL programs use the book. Also, Canadian content is emphasized for newcomers to Canada. See inside the complete book.

Why do some bookcovers have a blank circle?

The intention is for students to draw their self-portrait. Some teachers use the cover for an introductory lesson on how to draw a face, a mandala, zentangle, or any other art. We've seen many great covers over the years!
